Smatree 10000 mAh GoPro Power Bank for Hero 5/6 Black

In this post we are taking a closer look at the GoPro Charger and power bank from Smatree. This unique power bank has 2 charging bays for the Hero 5 Black and Hero 6 Black batteries. On the other end it has a normal USB port that can be used as a more traditional power bank for charging your smart phone or even your GoPro Fusion. What I really like about the Smatree power bank is that it is an all in one solution. Normally if I was packing my backpack for a photo hiking trip I would pack a power bank and I would also have to pack some sort of GoPro charger with all the corresponding charging cables. With the Smatree GoPro power bank and charger, I need only pack one thing.

The Smatree GoPro power bank allows you to charge 2 Hero 5/6 batteries simultaneously in about 2 hours or under. This allows you to keep shooting longer without having to worry about running out of battery power. 10000 mAh allows you to charge your GoPro batteries about 7 to 8 times.

CONS: There are a few things that I don’t like about the Smatree GoPro Power Bank and they are pretty minor. The first issue is more cosmetic. It has a very shiny gloss finish and gets smudged and covered in finger prints very easily. Not a big issue, but I seem to be forever polishing the unit. The second issue I have found is the battery compartment door can be difficult to close and even more difficult to open when batteries are mounted inside, it’s a very tight fit for the batteries.

All in all its a handy little charger/power bank and it has earned a spot in my camera bag and made it to my list of top 5 must have GoPro accessories for 2018.

Smatree 10000 GoPro Charger:

Door opens on the unit to reveal 2 charging bays for Hero 5 Black or Hero 6 Black batteries.

The other end has a micro USB port for charging the unit and a traditional USB port for charge other devices such as smart phone or even a GoPro Fusion.

You can charge 2 GoPro Hero 5/6 Black batteries simultaneously in under 2 hours.

High gloss finish looks sharp but is prone to smudges and finger prints.

Must Have $10 Upgrade For Your GoPro

If you own a GoPro this is a very inexpensive must have upgrade that everyone needs. One annoyance that I have had with my GoPro is having to remove it from the frame every time I want to charge it or plug in a microphone. With this 3rd party GoPro frame you can open and remove the charging door on your GoPro without having to remove it from the frame, saving a lot of time and aggravation. This frame also seems to be a better build quality than the stock frames, it has a nice rubberized coating. This is such a simple little fix, I wonder why GoPro has not implemented it yet on their official frames. Because they all have the same form factor this 3rd party frame is compatible with the Hero 5 Black, Hero 6 Black and the new GoPro Hero (2018).

GoPro Upgraded Frame:

This 3rd Party frame allows easy access to the GoPro charging door.

You can see the difference in the cutout. Stock GoPro frame on the right and 3rd party frame on the left.

Charging door can easily be opened and removed without having to remove the camera from the frame.

Allows you to easily charge your GoPro or plug in a microphone.
