Using A Microphone With the GoPro Hero 2018

Published

on

According to GoPro documentation the new budget GoPro Hero is not compatible with external microphones and the GoPro microphone adapter that is available for use with the GoPro Hero 5/6 Black. This has turned out to be false and external microphones and the microphone adapter is indeed compatible with the new GoPro Hero (2018).

To Use a microphone with the new GoPro Hero simply plug in the microphone adapter to the USB-C port on the GoPro Hero. Plug a 3.5 mm microphone into the jack on the adapter and start recording. No need to change any settings, the GoPro Hero 2018 will automatically detect the external microphone and disable the on board microphones. Like the Hero 5/6 quick capture does not support external microphones. You need to power on the GoPro first, then press the record button.

You will need to purchase the GoPro microphone adapter and a 3rd party microphone. I recommend using Rode microphones with the GoPro 2018, either the “VideoMicro” or the “Video Mic Go”. They are a good quality microphone for the price and work well with most GoPros, Smart Phones and DSLR/Mirror-less cameras.

The door on the charging port is designed to come off. Just gently pull on the door and it comes right off!

Best Memory Card for the new GoPro Hero 2018

There are many types and sizes of memory cards on the market that will work with the new GoPro Hero 2018 but to keep things simple I recommend the Lexar 633x it is a great memory card at a decent price and I have always had good luck with them.  You can choose how much storage you would like the most common is 32 GB or 64 GB. Must Have $10 Upgrade For Your GoPro

Published

on

If you own a GoPro this is a very inexpensive must have upgrade that everyone needs. One annoyance that I have had with my GoPro is having to remove it from the frame every time I want to charge it or plug in a microphone. With this 3rd party GoPro frame you can open and remove the charging door on your GoPro without having to remove it from the frame, saving a lot of time and aggravation. This frame also seems to be a better build quality than the stock frames, it has a nice rubberized coating. This is such a simple little fix, I wonder why GoPro has not implemented it yet on their official frames. Because they all have the same form factor this 3rd party frame is compatible with the Hero 5 Black, Hero 6 Black and the new GoPro Hero (2018).

You can see the difference in the cutout. Stock GoPro frame on the right and 3rd party frame on the left.
