Why I Switched To A Messenger Style Bag For Hiking With A Drone.

One activity that I really enjoy is hiking and spending time out in the woods capturing nature and interesting places with my drones and GoPro gear. For the most part, I always used a GoPro Seeker backpack which for the most part I really like, however, I decided to change things up a bit for a few different reasons. This past winter was quite mild, we had a lot of wet snow and mild winter days which left many of the trails I liked exploring wet and muddy. The problem with a backpack is every time I would want to grab my GoPro or my drone I would have to take off my pack set it down to get my gear ready and when everything is wet and muddy that can really start to cause problems. Last year I had purchased a small messenger style bag that I used when doing day trips to carry my GoPro, wallet and other small items and really loved the convenience of having my gear always at my fingertips ready to go.

After some consideration, I decided I would like that convenience when hiking as well so I purchased a larger messenger bag that could hold my GoPro gear and my Skydio 2 drone. Being able to grab my drone quickly and deploy it without having to take off my pack seemed really appealing, it would allow me to grab a shot quickly, repack and be back on my way. I decided to go with the Manfrotto Bumblebee M30 PL as it has ample storage and could easily fit my Skydio 2, Controller and some spare batteries, not to mention my Hero 8 Black and GoPro Max. Even if I decided to bring a drone like the Mavic 2 Pro and Smart Controller with me it was still suitable for that scenario as well.

After a few hikes with the new Manfrotto Drone/Camera Messenger bag, I knew this was going to be a permanent thing for me from here on in. Now I am not saying I will never use a backpack again but I think from this point going forward when doing day hikes I will be using a messenger bag most of the time. Even with all my gear loaded it is quite comfortable to wear, with a messenger bag you can easily move it from front to side to back depending on what is most comfortable for you.
